Veterans Appreciation Project
Dear Friends,
May 9, 2011 will mark the 66th anniversary of the Allied Victory that brought the end of WWII in Europe. On Sunday, May 8, 2011, Ezra USA, a Jewish Youth organization based in Brooklyn, will honor local veterans for their efforts and bravery in fighting the Nazi regime. As part of Ezra’s Veterans Appreciation Project, our volunteers will visit veterans to personally thank each of them for their bravery and noble service in WWII. Each veteran will receive a gift package prepared by Ezra leaders and volunteers that will include a Certificate acknowledging their courage and selflessness.
It is a sad fact, but with each passing year there are fewer and fewer living WWII veterans among us, so it is extremely important that we honor them today and keep the memory of their experiences alive. The Veterans Appreciation Project presents a unique opportunity to accomplish both ends - it will honor veterans for their bravery, and, more importantly, it will allow Ezra’s young volunteers to come face-to-face with each veteran’s story and to keep their heroic legacy alive. Bringing together two separate generations will also serve to reinforce our intergenerational unity – a cause whose importance cannot be understated.
The Veterans Appreciation Project is just one of many community outreach and educational initiatives run by Ezra USA. A primarily Russian-speaking Jewish youth movement with chapters in a number of states, including New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Chicago and Pennsylvania, Ezra USA is dedicated to strengthening the Jewish identity of young Jews in America. The organization serves about 7,000 young Jews in their teens, 20s and 30s. Ezra USA‘s central mission is to ensure the continuation of the Jewish people through the teaching of Jewish values and leadership development in the Russian-speaking Jewish community. Thank you!
We hope you will support Ezra USA in this important endeavor. The organization is currently accepting donations, 100% of which will go toward the purchase of gifts for the veterans. The "Give a Smile to a Child" Project
The "Give a Smile to a Child" Project was founded in 2010 by Ezra USA and Larger Than Life. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of life of children with cancer in Israel, regardless of faith, race, or gender. During the next 3 months, our volunteers will be collecting new toys as well as new and used (but functional) electronics. These collections will then be distributed to children with cancer in Israeli hospitals.
The purpose of collecting gifts for these children is to fulfill their desires, therefore strengthening the willpower they so desperately need to battle their disease. This is a very important factor in their recovery process, enabling them to connect with other children who share their experiences. Even if for a few mere hours, they get to have happy and normal childhood experiences. Experiences that other children and youth their age, take for granted.
Please join us in giving hope and joy to these ill children.
Toys can be sent to:
